What is a romantic spot to eat as well as location ideas for a Chicago proposal?
By DumbGuy | February 27, 2009
Slevyn Q asked:
I am taking my gf to Chicago for her bday and I have a suite reserved at The Palmer House Hilton downtown Chicago, and just need some ideas of things to do, some romantic ideas on places to eat, fun clubs, and ultimately a hot spot to propose. I somewhat like the idea of Buckingham Fountain but heard may be under construction…but also would like to get some other back up ideas. Thanks!

No place in Chicago is more romantic than this place - in my opinion:

I know it sounds kind of cheesy but the ferris wheel at Navy Pier is really nice at night. I actually didn’t want to go on it at first, but we had friends in from out of town that were dying to do it, and I ended up loving it. At night, you can see the lights of the city for miles, and when it’s just the two of you in the little car, it’s really romantic. You could time it so that you propose when you get to the top.
The Signature Room at 95th is at the top of the Hancock building, but I’ve heard the food isn’t all that great. Not to mention it’s a little cliche.
I’ve also heard that Geja’s Cafe is the ultimate romantic spot in Chicago for dining. I’ve never been, but I’ve heard things
You could also book a reservation on a cruise ship. Make sure the one you book as private tables so you’re not sitting with a bunch of strangers. You two could dine, dance to the jazz music, you could ask her up to the top deck for a view of the skyline and propose.
Best of luck to you!

The Signature Lounge at the top of the Hancock at night is one of the most romantic spots in the city. The tables all lit with candles, the fantastic view of the city and all of the lights.. perfect. The Signature Lounge is different than the The Signature Room. One is a two-room bar, the other is an expensive restaruant. The bar is free to get into, and the drinks can be a little pricey (about eight bucks for a domestic beer), but if you want to be romantic, it’s worth it. This might be the spot to propose. You can dress casually up there too (jeans, but not too casual), so she won’t suspect a thing.
Other spots you might want to check out include Lincoln Park Zoo (yes, it can be romantic at the zoo!), walking along the bike path on the lakefront near Oak Street Beach, Zanies Comedy club, Second City or iO or Annoynance theater sketch comedy clubs, the Green Mill Jazz club, the Andersonville neighborhood…
lots more, too many to name. Check out the Time Out Chicago website for more ideas (http://www.timeoutchicago.com/)

To add to the others:
Best Places to Propose:
Buckingham Fountain - the challenge might be to find a quieter spot, but this huge fountain at the center of Grant Park can be very romantic. In the evening, music and lights accompany the dancing waters.
Skydeck of the Sears Tower - views of 4 different states, and the tallest building in America provide you with some great superlatives to match your big moment!
Other Places:
Horse Drawn Carriage Tour - at the corner of Michigan & chestnut streets, take a downtown and lakefront tour some of the best Chicago sights in a romantic carriage.
Joseph Petrillo Band Shell - for a romantic Chicago evening in the summer, this is a fine place for a picnic and some classical music outoors under the stars.
