I hear a lot of this, do something random. Don’t overplan it. And that all sounds great. Ok you can overplan something. But the only way that can fall through is if something doesn’t work perfectly and you get upset that it wasn’t what you wanted. I say you should make good plans. So that something’s actually going to happen. And they see you’ve made an effort for them and have thought about it and what they’d like.

Anything you do at home’s going to be inexpensive. I bought a load of facepaints one time and blinfolded my girlfriend ***** and told her to stand still for half an hour while I painted her in flowers. She only really figured out what was going on half way through. Another time I downloaded the junglebook and alice in wonderland and we just stayed in and watched them. Another time I called around to her place telling her only that I had a surprise for her. Then turned up with a tent and sleeping bag. And we camped out in the back garden.
